Once upon an Angster Organ Factory
Pécs was known for his advanced music culture in the Middle Ages, so it is not surprising that the first organs appeared here already in the 15th century. These were still relatively primitive little instruments, but we see fiery organ building in the XV-XVI. turn of the century. The Turkish occupation destroyed the organ and music culture that spread to this great area, for nearly 300 years we have no traces of organ building. Then, the figure of Ferenc Focht emerges in the 19th century. He moved to Pécs from Vienna to the cathedral’s organ building, creating a temporary golden-age. His organs came to Oradea and Zagreb. By the middle of the 1960s, however, there were only two small workshops in Pécs, with one or two complaining organ builders.
