Natural backlight
Natural Backlight is a two-part portrait documentary about Hungarian writer, playwright, and essayist Peter Nádas. The first part enters the monastic seclusion of Peter Nádas: he shows the profane days of Saint-Profan in the course of his garden activities, hoeing, bean-making, or cooking while he talks through the history of his writing career; tells about the hardships, the necessary retreat and the pains of acting. The second part creates a reflective frame around the writer in the genre of the classic talking-head documentary. Professionals and acquaintances talk about Péter Nádas's former friendships, the four main stages of his career, his role as a journalist and public figure, and the problematic nature of his essay. The portrait is thus completed by the combination of the two types of focus.
